The Nothing Man – Catherine Ryan Howard.

The Nothing Man

Back Of the book :

I was the girl who survived the Nothing Man.
Now I am the woman who is going to catch him…

You’ve just read the opening pages of The Nothing Man, the true crime memoir Eve Black has written about her obsessive search for the man who killed her family nearly two decades ago.

Supermarket security guard Jim Doyle is reading it too, and with each turn of the page his rage grows. Because Jim was – is – the Nothing Man.

The more Jim reads, the more he realises how dangerously close Eve is getting to the truth. He knows she won’t give up until she finds him. He has no choice but to stop her first…

What I think :

When Supermarket Security guard, Jim Doyle goes to work one morning he gets the shock of his life. Because when he goes into the book section there he finds a new book entitled The Nothing Man. The book is about a serial killer that terrorised the area nearly twenty years ago and killed the author Eve Black’s, family. She has written the book because she needs to find out who killed them and maybe in the course of writing it she may find some new evidence and finally convict the person that took her family. The police called this killer ‘The Nothing Man’ because he simply never left anything behind, no clues, no DNA, Nothing.

The killer was never found …

Jim knows exactly who ‘The Nothing Man’ was, it was him …

Now it seems that Eve Black is getting closer to finding out too …

OMG !! what a book !!

This is a book in a book, it starts off just how a normal book would, then all of a sudden you are reading what the main character of the book is reading and you’re finding out first hand how that particular character is reacting to certain events in the book. ( the book in the book) I couldn’t put I down, I had to keep on reading to find out what happened.

I don’t want say too much because I don’t want to give any of the plot away but I will say this, its brilliantly written with very believable characters. The ending is fabulous and it has a bit of a sting in its tail.

I loved this creepy, dark atmospheric book so much ! Books don’t usually make me scared or creeped out but this one managed to in spades. I was reading it just before bed and it had me jumping at my own shadow !!

I give this book a very well-earned 10/10 and I look forward to the next book with interest.

The Search Party – Simon Lelic ~ Blog Tour.

The Search Party

Back of the book :

The entire town thinks sixteen-year-old Sadie Saunders is dead. Missing now for a week, they say she was murdered. And they think they know who did it.

Sadie’s five best friends aren’t so sure, and they vow to find out the truth. So they pack their bags and head into the woods where Sadie was last seen.

But they’re not just friends, they’re suspects. And each of them has a secret.

As the landscape opens up, and the darkness closes in, the reality of their situation becomes clear…

This was never really a search party.

It’s a witch hunt.

And not everyone will make it home alive.

What I Think :

Sadie Saunders has gone missing.

Sadie has been gone for six days.

Her friends, Abi, her best friend, Mason, her boyfriend and number one suspect, Cora who doesn’t really care one way or the other, Luke, who gets on with everyone or does he ? and lastly, Fash, a bit of a loner, they all think that the police have got it wrong so they decide to go look for her themselves. They each pack a bag and sneak off into the woods but instead of finding Sadie, one of the five ends up dead …

DI Robin Fleet and his very capable DS, Nicola collins are called in to investigate the death and of course the disappearance of Sadie. They are under a lot of pressure to find out what has happened to both the person who died and also finding Sadie as they have their boss wanting an arrest and the press needing answers. Everybody seems to need to know what happened.

It seems that everybody has something to hide …

What really happened to Sadie Saunders …. ?

Wow !! I really loved this book !

I have read this authors other two books and really enjoyed them and was really pleased to have been asked to be on the blog tour for his new one.

The book is written from the point of view of the ‘Search Party’ (the five best friends) and DI Fleet. It delves into the minds of all the characters, so we find out what happened in the form of their thoughts and feelings. Who is lying and who is telling the truth ?

I found the characters very well written and thought that author had written them just how teenagers would react to something like this. There are plenty of twists and turns, and moments that you just have to sit back and think about. The ending was fabulous and quite surprising to say the least !!

I read this book in just two sittings, I just couldn’t put it down !!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and really look forward to the next one.

I give this book a very well earned 9/10 (5 stars)
