Back of the book :
A teenage girl is found wandering the outskirts of Oxford, dazed and distressed. The story she tells is terrifying. Grabbed off the street, a plastic bag pulled over her face, then driven to an isolated location where she was subjected to what sounds like an assault. Yet she refuses to press charges.
DI Fawley investigates, but there’s little he can do without the girl’s co-operation. Is she hiding something, and if so, what? And why does Fawley keep getting the feeling he’s seen a case like this before?
And then another girl disappears, and Adam no longer has a choice: he has to face up to his past. Because unless he does, this victim may not be coming back . . .
What I think :
A young girl, Faith, is found wandering dazed and confused by a cab driver. She had been kidnapped, a bag put over her head and her wrists tied with cable ties then put in the back of a white van and taken to the allotments. She has somehow managed to escape. However she doesn’t want to press charges, in fact she doesn’t even want to talk to the police.
But why ?
Why doesn’t she want these people punished ?
The next victim isn’t as lucky, she doesn’t come home …
For D.I Adm Fawley, he knows he’s running out of time. But, this case all seems rather familiar. It reminds him of a case he worked nearly twenty years ago, the case of ‘The Roadside Rapist’. Gavin Parrie was sentenced to twenty years in prison for this crime, he is soon up for parole. There are so many similarities with this new case, the bag over the head, the cable ties and the white van, not to mention there were few things that weren’t mentioned in the press that are the same, like chalk dust on the victims shoes. Gavin has always protested his innocence but Adam thinks that he did his job properly and Gavin is guilty.
Are these two cases connected ?
Did they imprison the wrong man ?
Can Adam and his team can solve this crime ?
Oh, how I love a Adam Fawley thriller ! All the old team are back, DC Erica Sommer, DC Verity Everitt, Baxter and of course not forgetting DS Gislingham and Quinn. We also have a new member of the team DC Anthony Asante who is causing a few ripples with the team because he’s a bit of a go-getter kind of guy. Its like welcoming back old friends.
I always get really excited when I get the email from Avon books to ask if I want to be on the new Cara Hunter ‘DI Fawley’ Blog tour.
This is up there with the best !
As always plenty of brilliant twists that you don’t see coming and then all of a sudden there they are and it leaves you thinking ‘oh, how did that happen’. This book takes you on a really dark ride, you’re right on the edge of your seat all the way through, I didn’t want to put it down and I must admit I did have a couple of late nights whilst reading it !
Although this is a follow on in a series of books you could also read it as a stand alone.
All in all its quite an excellent read with a unexpected ending, which I didn’t see coming at all !!
I really loved this book and give it 9/10 (5 stars ) I can’t wait for the next one !!
