Back of the book :

Lexie’s got the perfect life and someone else wants it …

Lexie loves her home. She feels safe and secure in it – and loved, thanks to her boyfriend Tom.

But recently, something’s not been quite right. A book out of place. A wardrobe door left open. A set of keys going missing…

Tom thinks Lexie’s going mad – but then, he’s away more often than he’s at home nowadays, so he wouldn’t understand.

Because Lexie isn’t losing it. She knows there’s someone out there watching her. And, deep down, she knows there’s nothing she can do to make them stop…

What I think :

This story begins in a psychiatric ward, who is she and what is her story …. ?

Lexie and Tom a good life, Tom loves Lexie and Lexie loves Tom. They’ve been together for twelve years and they’re trying for a baby. Things on that score are proving to be harder than they thought. They’ve been trying for two years now with no success.

Harriet is Tom and Lexie’s neighbour. They’ve never actually met, they just hear each other through the walls.

Harriet is getting over a nasty break-up from her ex-fiance Luke. Harriet quite frequently listens to Tom and Lexie having sex late at night. She thinks that Lexie has it all. She has such a perfect life with Tom.

Harriet, who is from Chicago, she moved over here with Luke a few years ago, is actually quite unstable. She also wants what Lexie has got, she wants her life.

Harriet has done a bad thing before and will probably do a bad thing again to get what she wants.

And she wants Tom …

Lexie has googled Harriet in the wee small hours of the morning when Tom is away and she is on her own. She thinks that Harriet must have quite a bit of money as she lives in this block of flats in Islington. Their flat is owned by Tom’s parents and they pay them a very small rent, they would never be able to live there otherwise. Harriet has also got an important job, she writes songs for plays, films and adverts (for most of the day Lexie can hear Harriet through the wall, on her piano, playing and singing and at night they can hear her having parties) so its stands to reason – right ? Lexie sits and gazes at Harriet’s professional web page and envy’s her perfect face and long smooth, silky hair.

Lexie is a little bit jealous of Harriet’s life …

But, Lexie better watch out because Harriet has become obsessed with the people next door …

What happened next is so unbelievably sinister and creepy, it will give you nightmares …

I really loved this story from start to finish. The short chapters really get you into the minds of each character, and with them being so short you don’t get bored with whats going on.

I liked Lexie a lot and felt quite sorry for her and Tom and their fertility problems. it must be awful having to go through that every month and not getting the thing that you want the most.

I must admit that I found Harriet very strange and odd right from the start. Although having said that, after reading her story I’m not really surprised that she turned out that way.  She had some awful stuff happen to her and the way her ex-fiance treated her was really bad.

This is a creepy story about obsession, mental illness and abuse that will take you on a bit of a ride. Sometimes I just wanted to stop reading for a bit so the thing that you knew was going to happen, didn’t happen !

Just make sure that you keep a really good eye on your neighbours !

I give this creepy tale 9/10 (5 stars)

5 gold stars
