Back of the book :
Their darkest secrets won’t stay buried forever…
The butchered body of a professor is found in a private office of Exeter University. It is the first in a spate of horrific murders that shakes the city to its core.
Who would target a seemingly innocent man, and why? DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles turn to his students for answers, but their investigation turns up no leads. Someone must know more than they’re letting on…
As the body count rises, the police have to look into the past to uncover the person responsible before it’s too late.
But are they brave enough to face up to the truth?
What I think :
DS Adrian Miles and DS Imogen Grey are still nursing broken hearts. Adrian’s girlfriend Lucy, was brutally murdered and he hasn’t quite come to terms with it and Imogen has just split up with her ex-con boyfriend Dean. She hasn’t really got over him yet. Add to the mix that her mum has just died and her father, who she’s never had a relationship with has turned up again bringing with him a whole new family. So it isn’t all that surprising that over the last six months or so that Imogen and Adrian have become quite close.
So when a student up at Exeter University supposedly commits suicide and then a university professor is brutally murdered in his own office, Adrian and Imogen are called in. Then it turns out that the professor was sponsoring the boy that killed himself and its uncovered that there have also been a few other odd deaths at the Uni. Could all these things be connected ?
Could there be a serial killer at large .. ?
It’s up to Imogen and Adrian solve it before someone else dies …
This is the fifth book that Katerina has written about the trusty duo Imogen and Adrian and I for one can’t get enough !
I loved it from the very first page and I must admit I didn’t guess who-dun-it, which is a first for me ! I usually get it straight away. There are many, many twists and turns, its very fast paced and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough !
What I really liked though is the way that Imogen and Adrian’s relationship is always changing, this time stepping over that imaginary line into a whole new mine field from professional to personal. I cant’ wait for the next one.
I thought that this dark, pacy thriller was brilliant and give it a really well-earned 9/10. (five stars)

Here for your reading pleasure is a small extract from the book.
Toby had hardly broken a sweat by the time he reached the end of the first part of the challenge and grabbed hold of the crenelated wall at the top of the figures. He slipped through the gap in the wall and turned around, making sure the GoPro on his chest was pointing forwards. He leaned over and waved at his own phone. He didn’t want to waste any more time and so he turned back around and looked up at the rose window.
The rose window itself was the easiest part to climb; it was practically a ladder once you got past the long slim windows into the actual rose. He got to the top of the structure in no time. He made sure to look down, so that he could get a shot of the ornate window directly beneath him with the camera strapped to his head. He wondered how many viewers he had now. No sirens yet.
