Back of the book :
When one sister dies, the other must go to desperate lengths to survive.
After a tragic accident, still haunted by her twin sisters death, Abi is making a fresh start in Bath. But when she meets siblings Bea and Ben, she is quickly drawn to their privileged and unsettling circle.
When one sister lies, she must protect her secret at all costs.
As Abi tries to keep up with the demands of her fickle friends, strange things start to happen – precious letters go missing, and threatening messages are left in the room. Is this the work of the beautiful capricious Bea ? Or is Abi willing to go to any lengths to get attention ?
When the truth outs, will either sister survive …. ?
What I think :
Abi is mourning the loss of her twin sister Lucy. She died 18 months ago in a accident. (We don’t find out the details until at least the middle of the book) Abi, it seems blames herself for Lucy’s death. She recently has a nervous breakdown and tried to kill herself and has spent a few weeks in hospital.
She has moved to Bath for a new start and to try and get over the death of her twin sister, however she’s still seeing Lucy everywhere, so when she meets Bea, who bears a striking resemblance to Lucy, she’s drawn to her straight away. She’s even more captivated when she finds out that Bea has a twin, Ben. Bea is quite quirky and very overpowering and has Abi under her spell quite quickly. When the twins ask Abi to move into their huge townhouse, Abi jumps at the chance.
Abi’s new life is filled with parties and going out, however as time goes by strange things start to happen, odd and sinister things start appearing in Bea’s bedroom and precious things that belonged to Lucy start to go missing. How can Abi try and continue her new life with all these odd things happening ? Is she in danger and if not why and who is someone trying to scare her ?
I really love a thriller and this book certainly ticks all the boxes that make up a perfect one. It has plenty of secrets and lies and lots of intrigue. The characters are just the right side of weird and they all fit together so perfectly. You feel really sorry for Abi after everything that has happened to her. I felt quite protective towards her, especially when she first meets Bea because Bea is such a domineering person, I really felt that she was going to lead her astray.
Its not long before we find out that the twins aren’t what they seem, there is a connection between Bea an Abi’s past and also that Ben and Bea have plenty of secrets of their own. Put all this together and the huge twist at the end and it all adds up to a humdinger of a fabulous book !
Yes, I really loved this book, I give it a really well earned 10/10.
