Return to Bluebell Hill 04

Back of the book :

Leaving her life in London to return home to the charming country village of Bluebell Hill is harder than she thought. Especially as she never considered she’d be returning under such heart wrenching circumstances.

Clearing out the stunning and imposing Bluebell House after her parents’ death is difficult for Jessica – they never had the best relationship and now its too late, Yet spending time in the house that was never a home, having afternoon tea with dear old Esme – sharing hot, sizzling kisses with delectable gardener Rueben  ! – opens Jessica eyes to the potential of Bluebell House …

Could this big old, beautiful manor really be her forever home ?

Is Bluebell Hill where her heart is, has always been ?

Jessica soon dares to dream of her own home with delicious Rueben by her side. But when a deep, dark secret of Bluebell House is unearthed, Jessica’s world is turned upside down ….

Will Jessica ever find where her heart truly lies ?

What I think :

Jessica lives in London, she feels like shes never belonged anywhere.

When her parents die and leave her the house that she grew up in and later ran away from, she has to go back to get it ready to be sold. When she returns to Bluebell Hill she is met from the train by her old Nanny, Esme. The very lovely lady who brought her up. Esme is the only person that Jessica has any happy childhood memories about. She really doesn’t want to be there as her parents were very cold towards her the whole of her childhood. so much so that she ran away to London when she was 18.

However there is one silver lining, one day she meets gardener Rueben, who is very easy on the eye ! They hit it off straight away. Can Jessica let her guard down and have some fun ?

One day whilst cleaning out her parents bedroom she finds something that changes everything …

What will the future hold for Jessica and Rueben ?  and will she ever find out Bluebell House’s secrets ?

This is a Fabulous debut Novel,  Well Done to Rebecca !!

I adored Jessica, she is just a normal ‘girl-next-door’ type of person, who is on her own in life. She seemed a little lost to me, living in London alone with only her best friend Sarah (who is fab by the way – I would have liked to have seen more of her) to turn to. who really hasn’t had the best start in life. Then there was the wonderful Esme, Jessiaca’s old nanny and friend. everybody should have a Esme in their life. what a lovely old lady she is. And last but not least we have Rueben, well he is just a saint of a man, heaven sent really ! calm and understanding and of course good-looking ! I really hoped that things turned out them.

I really loved this book from start to finish, I really didn’t want to put it down, its what a story should be, a lovely modern fairytale of a book. A really easy read with a gorgeous ending 🙂

I hope that Rebecca keeps on writing, she has such a wonderful talent, I will be looking out for the next one !

I give this fab book 10/10.

The Flower Arrangement – Ella Griffin – Blog Tour.

Back Of the book :

Golden Peonies bowing their heads beneath blue delphinium bells. Delicate pink anemones threaded between freckled green orchids. Soft apricot roses woven together with velvety purple irises.

Every bouquet tells a story.

And every story begins at Blossom & Grow, a tiny jewel-like flower shop in the heart of Dublin. Here, among the buckets of fragrant blooms, beneath the flickering candles and lanterns, Lara works her magic. Translating feelings into flower arrangements that change hearts and lives.

But what about her own heart ? Has she really healed since she lost her chance to be a mother ? What will happen when her own story takes a sudden turn ?

Can the flowers that heal the customers work their magic on the florist …. ?

What I think :

Lara is a Florist, she lives in Dublin, Ireland.

She’s married to Michael, however her marriage isn’t working. She was a Graphic Designer but after getting pregnant and losing her child to a late miscarriage, She decided to have a change of career. Being a Florist is what she decided on, as she’s always loved flowers and feels a calm peace when she’s around them. She believes that she doesn’t do the arrangements, the flowers just ‘know’ where to go.

Other things in her life aren’t too good either, her Mum died when she was a young child, leaving her father to bring up her and her younger brother Phil alone. Sadly now her Dad has got terminal Lung Cancer. He’s in the hospital with not long to live.

However she doesn’t let life bother her, she tries to see the best in everything and everybody. She finds such sheer delight in anything floral and really tries to help all the people she meets in her shop.

Each chapter is entitled with a flower and its meaning, which is woven into that chapter. This is a really fabulous book, a really easy read with some really lovely characters.

Ella is a really excellent writer that has the ability to weave everything together to make a really beautiful book. There are some really serious subjects covered, such as, Cancer and death which sadly sometimes follows, love, marriages and some really tangled webs. It makes you feel happy and sad in equal measures, however its one of the nicest books I’ve read in a long time. I shall certainly be looking out for other books from the same author.

I give this genuinely gorgeous read 9/10.

Back of the book :

Blinding sunshine … A bend in the road … What became of the little girl with the sun in her eyes ?

Amber was three when a car crash stole her mothers life. She doesn’t remember the accident, But a stranger at the scene has been unable to forget. Now, almost thirty years later, she’s trying to track Amber down.

Amber meanwhile is married to Ned and living on the other side of the world in London. When her father has a stroke, she flies straight home to Australia to be with him. Away from her husband, Amber finds comfort in her oldest friends, but her feelings for Ethan, the gorgeous green-eyed man she once fell for, have never been platonic.

As Ethan and Amber grow closer, married life in London feels very far away. Then Amber receives a letter that changes everything …

Before your mother died, she asked me to tell you something ….

What I think :

When Amber was a small child she was in a car accident, sadly her mother was killed that day. She cant remember much about it or her mother.

Amber is an Australian living in the U.K. She’s married to Ned, but she’s always loved another, Her childhood friend Ethan. Amber and Ned’s Marriage is OK, but cracks are beginning to show. So when Amber’s Dad has a stroke, she drops everything and goes back home to Australia to help her dad’s partner Liz look after him. She goes alone as Ned can’t get away because of work. she’s hoping that some time apart may help give her time to think so she can repair her marriage.

Whilst in Australia she catches up with some of her old friends, Tina and Nell. But she also meets up with Ethan, her childhood friend again. She doesn’t know how she feels about him now. However to make matters worse,  Just as her dad is recovering from his stroke, she receives a letter from a stranger telling her that she was at the accident that day all those years ago and she has something to tell Amber about her mother …

Another fabulous read from the wonderful Paige Toon, she always manages to write such wonderful stories that pick you up from the very first page and grab you in till the last one, I really didn’t want this one to end. having said that though I did read this book in a day and a half, I just couldn’t put it down. Another thing that I really love is that her stories always involve going to a hot country, her descriptions make me feel like I’m really there.

As usual the characters are really excellent, I thought that Amber was really likeable, although I did think that she liked to go to the pub alot ! However right from the start I did have trouble warming to Ethan, I know he was supposed to to be the sexy alternative but I did think he was a bit shifty and wanted to lead Amber astray !  Ned was my sort of guy, all round hero, He was so sweet and really loved Amber.

All in all a excellent read from the queen of chick-Lit, I would wholeheartedly recommend his book to all of my friends.

I give this book 10/10.

The Sudden Departure of The Frasers – Louise Candlish.

download (2)

Back of the book :

My name is Amber Fraser. I’ve just moved into number 40 Lime Park Road. You’ll come to think of me as a loving wife, a thoughtful neighbour and a trusted friend.

THIS A LIE …..

When Christy and Joe Davenport are handed the keys to number 40 on the picture perfect Lime Park Road, Christy knows it should be a dream come true.

Strange, though, that the house was on the market for such a low price.

That the previous owners renovated the entire property yet moved out within a year.

That none of the neighbours will talk to Christy.

As curiosity gives way to obbsession, Christy finds herself drawn deeper into the mystery of the house’s former occupants – and the dark and shocking secret that tore the street apart ….

What I think :

Christy and Joe can’t quite believe that they can afford to buy number 40 Lime Park Road, after all it is the best house on the street. Why is it on the market at such a rock bottom price ? When Christy’s parents lend them some money they are able to scrape enough money together for the mortgage. After they have moved into to their dream home they still can’t understand why the last occupants left in such a hurry. The neighbours are very cold towards them and refuse to talk about the Frasers at all.

What happened in this house and the street to make them leave after only 11 months and why wont anyone talk about it ? ….

The book is told in two parts, Christys story in 2013 and Amber’s story in 2012.

I must admit I’m still not quite sure about this this book, don’t get me wrong its quite an enjoyable read and the characters are well formed and believe-able, but there was something missing that I still can’t quite put my finger on.

I really liked Christy, and I really liked the way that she became an amateur sleuth to discover just what had happened to make the Fraser’s up and leave so quickly, she reminds me of me in that respect. If there is something to get to the bottom of, I’m your girl !!  Amber however, I saw through almost straight away. She married for money and not as far as I can see love, she is quite spoiled by everyone and because she is pretty everyone seemed to think she was wonderful. By the end of the book I really thought she was awful and quite spiteful really.

Like I said at the start of this review, this is an enjoyable story with quite a few twists and turns and  a few secrets to uncover. Although I do think that its slightly long in places and there there weren’t quite enough tit-bits as to what the big secret is, you have to wait until the very end.

I give this book 8/10.
