Saving Grace – Jane Green.

Back of the book :

A perfect stranger wants her perfect life ….

Grace Chapman has the perfect life, living comfortably with her husband, bestselling author Ted, in a picture -perfect farmhouse on the Hudson River in New York State.

Then Ted advertises for a new assistant, and Beth walks into their lives. Organised, passionate and eager to learn, Beth quickly makes herself indispensable to Ted and his family. But Grace soon begins to feel sidelined in her own home – her marriage – by this ambitious young woman.

Is Grace paranoid, as her husband tells her, or is there more to Beth than first thought ?

What I think :

Grace Chapman lives with her husband Ted, a very highly strung author. They live in a gorgeous house in New York. They have a grown up daughter, Clemmie.  It Appears that Grace has a really lovely life, however is everything as its seems ?

When their housekeeper/assistant/ friend Ellen has to leave to look after her mother, They advertise for another one to take Ellen’s place. Enter Beth who seems perfect in every way, But Beth thinks something isn’t quite right but cant quite seem to put her finger in what it is …..

This is another wonderful book from this extremely talented writer.

This is not a light hearted ‘chick lit ‘ read, its so much deeper and darker. It could almost be classed as a thriller as its very suspenseful in places.

With its very well written characters that jump off the page and right into your living room, it really makes you stop and think.

Grace is a very likeable, but damaged person, this is partly due to her childhood and partly because of the awful way that her very selfish husband treats her.  However she has a a couple of wonderful friends in Lydia and Sybil who are really there for her when she needs them.

Jane has written a another brilliant book about the realities of family life.

The only thing that I didn’t like very much was the way that recipes were in the middle of some of the chapters, it was quite distracting.

I give this truly thought provoking book 9/10.
