Kate has the perfect existence: a glossy image, a glamorous home, a perfect family.

But there are cracks.

All is not what it seems.

And now the two worlds collide.

Somebody’s out for revenge. Someone who has been waiting for thirty years …

What I Think :

Wow ! what a fab book !

The story begins in 1980 with Emma who is backpacking around Europe alone. Whilst she is visiting France something really terrible happens to her. Emma is quite naive girl as she is a only child, so when she meets Beattie and Jake when she gets to Greece, she is grateful for their company. They have a few adventures together, But then they do something very wrong and violent which sadly ends in tragedy.

Kate seems to have a lovely life, she is the ‘Face of Kindness’ for her charity ‘Martha’s Wish, she has a gorgeous husband, lovely daughter and comfortable home. But underneath it all she is a very broken, damaged person and has problems with food. Is she all that she seems ?

Emma’s Part is in the form of diary entries from the 1980’s, and kate’s is in the now. I love the way that the book alternates between then and now to form the story.

This book has many twists and turns, the first is in the first few chapters and they just keep on coming.

Its very brutal in parts, but I think that its needed to tell the story. The author weaves a dark and sinister tale, yet you have to keep on reading just to see how it ends.

This book would seriously put me off backpacking for quite a while !

This is an excellent read which I give 10/10.
